FUNDRAISING TIPS

Talking about the Walk on social media is an easy and simple way to spread the word about the event!

  • Link your participant center page in your posts or Instagram bio to bring donors to your page.
  • Share your experience with your followers — tell them why you're walking, why it's important to you and how close you are to your fundraising goal.

When you post on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, please tag us at @alzheimermb and use the hashtag #IGWalkforAlz so we can cheer you on — we might even repost it!

Ask your family, friends, colleagues and social media followers to donate again.

Don’t be afraid to remind them that you’re participating in the Walk and ask if they'd like to support you again.

More people are affected by dementia than you might realize — 62% of Manitobans have had a close connection to dementia and many people are happy to make a meaningful contribution to the cause.

Keep up the momentum.

The earlier you start fundraising, the better. Always follow up with every person you’ve asked — often people forget and a gentle reminder will be appreciated.

And if they donated, don’t forget to thank them.

Make it real.

If you’ve got a story, special memory or fantastic person you’re walking for, share it! It will motivate people to support your fundraising efforts.

Have fun.

Try something new to help fundraise for the event!

  • Organize a bake sale or a garage sale.
  • Offer your services in exchange for a pledge.
  • Take on a challenge — how much are friends and family willing to give you to look silly?
  • Involve your workplace — challenge your co-workers by placing a fundraising thermometer and spare-change jar on your desk.
  • Ask your employer if your company has a matching gift program to help raise funds.
